Skerries RNLI thanked Skerries Rugby club for their generous donation of €590. The money was raised through the selling of programmes at their hugely successful Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser held in June.

Several members of the Skerries Rugby club visited the station last Thursday (17 July) where Robert McAuley, Vice President of Skerries rugby club presented Lifeboat Operations Manager for Skerries RNLI, Niall McGrotty with the cheque.

Shortly after presenting the cheque, the rugby club representatives got to witness the hard work of the volunteer crew when Skerries RNLI were tasked to investigate reports of a vessel disorientated in thick fog off Malahide. The lifeboat with Rob Morgan at the Helm and volunteer crew Eoin Grimes, AJ Hughes and Stephen Crowley on board proceeded directly to Malahide. However, as they reached the area the fog began to lift and the vessel was able to negotiate their way to shore safely.

Speaking about the donation, Gerry Canning, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said “Fundraising is absolutely vital to allow our volunteers to continue to save lives at sea. We are very grateful to have the support of Skerries rugby club, which, along with various other clubs and organisations really is at the heart of the community in Skerries.”
