Skerries RNLI got called out this afternoon at 14.58. A group of four people went out early afternoon, Kayaks and one Stand Up Paddle Boarder, but got separated when fog came in. However, all turned out positively when, just after the lifeboat launched, all four made it safely to shore under their own steam. Visibility was practically nil and there was no wind. A good ending.

And again, at 17.02 Dublin Coastguard asked Skerries Lifeboat to launch. The 9 metre "Skomer" Razor Fishing Boat started to drift after the gear box failed. Positioned at the Cardy Rocks, off Balbriggan, the Skipper dropped anchor and called for assistance. With the fog thickening, Skerries Lifeboat launched and proceeded to the co-ordinates given. By the time the RNLI Volunteer crew reached the position, the fog had deepened to such an extent that, despite both boats launching flares, neither crew could see them. Evenually with the aid of a mobile phone, the Skomer was located and towed into Skerries Harbour. Crew and boat safe and sound. Another good ending.
